This article is a research guide based on official information as of 2026-08-12. This is not a report from a stay at the inn. The extent of your contact with cats cannot be determined through official information, so this article does not guarantee that you will be able to meet them.

“Idutsuya” in Yosano Town, northern Kyoto Prefecture, is a small inn where you can stay in a historic townscape and enjoy dishes made with local ingredients. The official blog still has articles that refer to multiple cats as “nyanzu”, which conveys the daily life of cats.
However, the official information does not confirm the place and time where you can definitely interact with the cats, or the visit to the guest room. Neko Yado Research lists the inn as C: resident cats are confirmed, but interaction conditions remain unconfirmed.
Cats living at Izutsuya
Official website notice continuously posts photos and daily life of multiple cats. Since the inn information has been updated in 2026, it is easier to check the current status of the inn compared to candidates that rely only on old rankings.
On the other hand, having a cat appear on a blog is not the same as having a cat freely touched by guests. There may also be days when the cat is in the family’s living space and does not come out to guests. When making a reservation for cats, please check with the inn in advance to find out how many cats they currently have, whether there is a place where guests can meet them, and how to respect cats that are uncomfortable with interaction.
Even if you meet them, there are cats who don’t like being photographed or who want to stay away from people. Avoid flash photography, chasing, and unauthorized feeding.
The main character is dishes that make use of Yosano ingredients
As the name suggests, Idutsuya is a culinary ryokan. The official dining guide describes using the inn’s own raised chickens, wild plants, vegetables, and other ingredients. Since July 2026, its plans have been renewed to feature “Food and Medicine from the Same Source: Charcoal-grilled Kaiseki”.
Charcoal-fired dishes, local seasonal ingredients, and menus that take into account the health of the people eating them are central to choosing an inn. Seasonal local chicken dishes and room service for guests staying without meals are also available, but availability dates and reservation conditions are subject to change. Please discuss any allergies or food intolerances before making a reservation.
It is a small inn that accommodates about 3 groups per day, with time spent on food and service. People who stay for the purpose of eating, not just to see the resident cats, will be more satisfied.
Stay at Chirimen Kaido
Kaya’s “Chirimen Kaido”, where the inn is located, is a historical townscape that flourished with Tango chirimen. You can walk around while feeling the history of old merchant houses and textiles, so taking a walk before and after check-in becomes part of your trip.
In addition to the resident cats, the inn also posts information about animals such as dogs and chickens. If you are traveling with a companion who is not used to an animal environment or has allergies, please check the separation from the living space in advance.
Things to check before making a reservation
- You can check if a cat is present, but there is no guarantee that guests can meet them.
- There is no official information that guest room visits or cuddles are possible.
- Please check with the inn for the current number of resident cats and contact areas.
- The menu changes depending on the season, procurement, and plan.
- Pet-friendly plans and interactions with resident cats are separate conditions.
- Free pick-up and drop-off is available only at designated times, and advance notice is required until the day before.
Access
If using public transport, you will need onward travel from Yosano Station or the express bus stop. Official free shuttle service is limited to a specified service on the day of your stay and a designated time the following morning, and notification must be made by 21:00 the day before. If your schedule does not match, please use a taxi or public transportation.

Summary
Idutsuya Ryokan is a place where you can enjoy the Tango chirimen townscape, charcoal-grilled kaiseki dishes using local ingredients, and the daily life of an inn with animals. Information about cats can be found in the current official announcement, but it is not yet introduced as an inn that promises petting.
This is a candidate for people who make cooking and walking around town the main focus of their travels, and who want to quietly say hello when they meet a cat. If you prioritize interacting with cats, we recommend that you inquire before making a reservation.
