“Yuzako Onsen Ryokan” in Ota City, Shimane Prefecture is a hot spring inn where you may be able to interact with resident cats. It also accommodates guests bringing a variety of pets, including dogs and cats. A stay can be combined with a trip around Iwami Ginzan and Nima Sand Museum.

Public information that you can interact with resident cats

Local reporting from February 2026 describes the Norwegian Forest Cat “Baron” greeting the writer at the entrance and being friendly enough to pet. This recent, specific example supports the B classification for interaction inside the inn.

Past local reporting describes Haku and Baron greeting visitors at the entrance, as well as a separate cat-cafe-like cat room. The current official website does not explain how to use that room, so we cannot say it is still available in the same way.

Before booking, check directly with the inn about the number of cats, cat-room access and the possibility of guest-room visits. We list it as an inn where interaction with cats inside the building may be possible.

Iwami Ginzan sightseeing and hot springs

Yuzako Onsen is described as an alkaline hot spring that is gentle on the skin. In addition to shared baths for guests in regular rooms, there are special Japanese-Western rooms and universal-design rooms with in-room hot-spring baths. Pets are not allowed in the special Japanese-Western rooms with hot-spring baths, so check amenities and pet rules separately.

The food is prepared by a head chef who is certified by a culinary association, and there are two courses: standard and upgraded, which use ingredients from Shimane’s mountains and seas. Meals are usually served in a large hall, but some special rooms have their own private dining rooms.

Conditions for a pet-friendly accommodation

Many guest rooms allow you to stay with your dog or cat, but the available rooms vary depending on the type and size of the animal. According to the official FAQ, pets are allowed from the lobby to the guest room, and must remain in the guest room during meals and bathing. There is no food for pets, so please bring your own regular food, collar, and leash.

Staying for the purpose of interacting with resident cats is a different story than staying with your own pet. For the safety of the resident cat and your companion animal, please follow the instructions at the accommodation regarding whether contact is allowed or not.
