Villa Santorini in Tosa, Kochi Prefecture is a resort hotel with white and blue buildings reminiscent of Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea and a view overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A resident cat named Sergeant lives inside the inn.

The entry article for the “Resident Cat Ranking 2026” published by the hotel on Rakuten Travel in December 2025 mentions that Sergeant is friendly and hospitable to guests. Rather than being an inn for cats only, it’s an inn where you can enjoy the architecture, ocean views, and cuisine that makes use of ingredients from Kochi Prefecture, and you can also expect to have a chance encounter with Sergeant.

Current information on resident cat/Sergeant

Sergeant is a resident cat named because the pattern on his face looks like he’s wearing a helmet. In an official article from Kochi Prefecture in 2019, it was introduced as a cat that is welcomed into hotels from the neighborhood, walks inside the inn and by the pool, and sometimes guides guests to the guest room.

This prefecture official article is old information, but the hotel itself introduced Sergeant as a resident cat in the December 2025 inn news. Therefore, Neko Yado Research treats it as evidence that they are still present.

On the other hand, it is currently not possible to confirm from the current hotel information where it is easy to meet, whether guests can touch the cats, or whether guests may enter the guest room. In the 2019 article, there are scenes of him snuggling up to people and sitting on people’s laps, but past behavior during interviews cannot be guaranteed for the present. In this article, it is classified as C “Meeting a resident cat (unconfirmed contact)”.

Don’t assume too much that you will be able to meet.

Sergeant lives at the hotel and is not a member of staff who meets guests at fixed times. Depending on temperature, weather, the cat’s condition, and circumstances inside the inn, there may be days when the cat does not appear. When booking, tell the inn that meeting cats matters to you, and check their current presence, places where you may meet them, and the scope of permitted contact.

When you see him, don’t chase him, but wait for him to approach you. Inside the inn includes the outside stairs, terraces, and around the pool, so it is important not to become obsessed with taking photos and block the path or lead them into dangerous areas. Don’t use flash, snacks, or cuddles at your own discretion, and give priority to hotel information.

In the past, it has been introduced that you may be guided to the guest room, but this does not mean that you will stay in the guest room or that you will always come to the guest room. If you are traveling with distance from cats as a condition, be sure to check directly with the inn before making a reservation.

16 rooms where you can enjoy white and blue architecture

According to the official website, there are 4 guest rooms in the new building and 12 in the main building. The new building has a flat roof structure inspired by the captain’s house on Santorini, and has guest rooms ranging from 50 square meters to 100 square meters. The main building is a reproduction of the cave-shaped architecture that is said to have been the residence of the crew of trading ships, and has guest rooms ranging from 30 square meters to 60 square meters.

Each room has a different size, bed configuration, and view, so check not only the photo but also the guest room name and facilities before making your selection. Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out is at 11:00. Inside the inn is a non-smoking area, including on the terrace and poolside.

Because the structure is a reproduction of Santorini, there are many external stairs to get inside the inn. If you are concerned about navigating stairs, please discuss the route and steps to your desired guest room before making a reservation.

Reservation-only hotel available for junior high school students and above

Accommodation is for junior high school students and above; children under elementary school age are not allowed to stay for security reasons. Additionally, the official website clearly states that the hotel requires reservations, and those without reservations for lodging or restaurants will not be allowed to enter.

You cannot stop by just to meet the resident cat. If you wish to meet a sergeant, you must first make formal hotel reservations and restaurant reservations, and follow the rules and purpose of using the facilities.

If you are allergic to cats, please check the common areas and guest rooms where cats may enter before making a reservation. Since the living range of cats is not made public, it is safe to consider the possibility of coming into contact with cat fur or allergens even if you cannot see them.

A restaurant that makes use of ingredients produced in Kochi Prefecture

Inside the Inn’s restaurant “logue” aims to visit the production areas as much as possible to connect the ingredients and the producers’ feelings to the cuisine. Lunch and dinner are prepared by the chef, and reservations are required for both. Please allow plenty of time for your arrival, as all events will start at a fixed start time.

If you have allergies, the official website asks you to tell the inn which ingredients you cannot eat and explain restrictions involving broths or heated forms as well. Check each accommodation plan to see whether dinner is included or requires a separate reservation.

Breakfast is served at the main building restaurant THIRA, and you can choose a starting time of 7:30, 8:30, or 9:30. Please prioritize the plan displayed at the time of reservation, as meal contents and serving times may change.

We recommend visiting by car or rental car.

The location is 599-6 Ryu, Tosa Usa-cho, Kochi Prefecture. The official website recommends driving or renting a car as it is inconvenient to visit by public transportation. This article also includes the attribute “travel by car is recommended”.

It is approximately 13 km/20 minutes by car from Tosa Interchange, and approximately 45 minutes by car from Kochi Station and Kochi Ryoma Airport. The parking lot has space for 20 cars. As the route passes through the Yokonami Skyline, please allow plenty of time and check the road conditions at night or during bad weather.

Contracted taxis must be reserved by telephone at least one day in advance. The prices posted on the official website are as of March 2024, so do not assume the current prices are fixed; please confirm with the hotel when making your reservation.
