“Nanasawaso”, located in Nanasawa Onsen in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a hot spring inn with natural hot springs, seasonal kaiseki cuisine, and 7 guest rooms. Inside the inn, the rescue cat Hana-chan lives as a resident cat and sometimes greets guests at the entrance or around the front desk.

It’s a hot spring inn with many day trip visitors, so rather than just visiting the cats, it’s a good idea to make the hot springs and food the center of your trip, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Hana-chan, say hello quietly.

Resident cat Hana-chan will welcome you near the entrance.

Nanasawaso’s official blog as of 2026-06-27 introduces Hana-chan as a resident cat, and posts pictures of her sleeping in her favorite chair and greeting customers. The inn itself also reports on recovery and health management after vaccination, and this is specific information that allows you to confirm her current presence.

On the other hand, the official blog also mentions that there are days when the cat is not seen and takes a break, and there are some users who cannot be seen even once. A cat’s location is not a fixed exhibition space. Since we can’t confirm the instructions to come to the guest room, Neko Yado Research classifies it as B “inside the inn/you can interact in a dedicated space.”

If you spot one, don’t chase it, and keep your distance when it’s sleeping or taking a break. It is important to turn off the flash when taking photos and do not hold or treat the animals without permission from the staff.

A 7-room inn renovated in 2023

Nanasawaso underwent a major renovation in 2023 and was reborn as a small inn, reducing the number of guest rooms from over 40 to just 7. The official website introduces the 37 square meter “Uguisu” with reduced steps and handrails, the 37 square meter “Komadori” with a sofa, and the 41 square meter “Ohruri” with a raised tatami mat.

Room types, capacity, facilities, and prices vary depending on the plan. There is no information that Hana-chan will be in the guest room, so don’t think of it as a hotel where you can share a room with a cat, but instead choose a hot spring hotel where you might meet inside the inn by chance.

Strongly alkaline natural hot spring

According to the official website, the hot spring is a strong alkaline simple hot spring with a pH of 9.78 drawn from 600 meters underground. There are indoor baths and open-air baths for men and women, as well as private family baths that require reservations, saunas, and footbaths whose contents change depending on the season.

Please check the reservation plan and business calendar, as the operating hours of bathing facilities, conditions for private baths, and closing days may change. We also open for day-trip bathing, so depending on the time of day, the entrance and common areas may be crowded.

Seasonal Kaiseki cuisine and dining venue

Dinner and breakfast are served in the inn dining area. On our official website, we collaborate with local farmers and fisheries businesses to offer kaiseki cuisine using seasonal ingredients, such as sweetfish in the summer and wild boar hotpot in the winter.

When staying at an inn where cats are in common areas, it is important not to share food or attract cats with strong-smelling food. If you have any allergies or food intolerances, please check directly at the time of reservation to see if this can be accommodated.

Accessible by bus and walk from Hon-Atsugi Station

The address is 1830 Nanasawa, Atsugi City. By car, it is about 10 minutes from Isehara Oyama IC on the Shin-Tomei Expressway, and about 25 minutes from Atsugi IC on the Tomei Expressway.

If using public transportation, take the bus bound for Nanasawa from Atsugi Bus Center stop 9, get off at Hirosakuji Onsen Iriguchi, and walk for about 7 to 8 minutes. The frequency and last bus may change depending on the season and day of the week, so it’s best to check the round-trip times in advance.

Summary

Nanasawaso is an inn where resident cat Hana-chan may appear around the entrance during a hot spring trip where you can enjoy skin-beautifying waters and seasonal cuisine. Hana-chan is not a customer service staff that you can meet every time, and sometimes she takes a break or hides herself.

It is suitable for people who want to enjoy a stay at a hot spring hotel without having to make a guaranteed encounter with a cat. If time with resident cats is important to you, please check with the inn about Hana-chan’s current status and the rules for meeting her before making a reservation.
