There are two types of cat accommodations: those where resident cats roam freely around the reception desk and hallways, and those where resident cats meet guests in cat-only rooms or cat cafes. It is not possible to uniformly decide which one is kinder to cats or easier to interact with.
Inns where cats roam freely inside
Cats come and go around the reception, lounge, and guest room like family members. Although chance encounters are appealing, there are some areas where you cannot enter, such as the dining hall, bathhouse, and kitchen.
Guests should be careful when opening and closing the entrance, windows, and guest room door, and should walk with the assumption that a cat will come near their feet. You will also need a private area where the cat can hide.
Inns with a dedicated cat space
Cat facilities and human accommodation are separated, including a cat room, cat salon, cat cafe, and shelter. This format makes it easy to set rules such as usage time, number of people, reservations, changing clothes, etc.
However, just having a dedicated room does not guarantee welfare. Hiding places, high places, downtime, distance between individuals, cleaning and health management are important.
Differences in accommodation experience
| Item | Cats roaming freely inside the inn | Dedicated cat space |
|---|---|---|
| Encounter | Highly coincidental | Time and place may be clear |
| guest room | Some inns come in | Many inns are separated in principle |
| Reservation | Often included in accommodation reservation | May be separate reservation/rate |
| Safety | Attention to doors and footing | Attention to entry and exit and hygiene procedures |
| Cat rest | Requires private area | Requires closing time and hiding place |
Choose the shape that suits you
If you are waiting for a chance encounter with a cat and are considerate of the door and your feet, you can consider inside the inn free type. If you are allergic to cats or want to separate your companion from someone who doesn’t like them, a dedicated space type may be easier to compare. However, complete separation of allergens is not guaranteed.
Ask before booking
- Where cats usually live
- Location and time for guests to enter
- Cats not allowed in guest rooms/dining areas
- Where cats stay away from people
- Rules for photography, cuddles, and snacks
- Separate reservations and fees for exclusive facilities
Think of the flow diagram instead of the inn name
You cannot judge the actual contact point just by the name “inside the inn freedom” or “cat room”.Before making a reservation, check the entrance, guest rooms, dining area, bathrooms, and cat rooms as a single flow line.
| Your wishes | Easy-to-fit operation | Additional confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Want to wait for a chance encounter | Cats roaming freely inside the inn | Areas cats cannot enter and how doors are managed |
| Want to meet cats at a set time | Dedicated cat space | Reservations, age restrictions, and hours of use |
| For a quiet stay in a guest room | An inn where cats are allowed in guest rooms | Visits are not guaranteed; how to ask cats to leave the room |
| I want to avoid cats | Accommodations with separate areas for people and cats | Is it possible to separate reception and dining areas |
In some cases, cats may pass through a hallway to get to a dedicated space, or in some cases we have guest rooms where cats cannot enter even if you are inside the inn. Rather than making assumptions based on the building type, ask about its current operation.
Relationship with A・B・C
Inside the inn free type does not automatically become A. If there is no basis for guest room visits, B will allow contact in common areas, and C if contact is unconfirmed. A cat-only space type is generally a candidate for B, but it may be a C if you just see the cat through the glass.
The classification is not based on the superiority or inferiority of the facilities, but on the points of contact with the guests that we have confirmed. Please read the A/B/C Judgment Criteria and the confirmation date of each individual article.
In either case, the cat’s will takes precedence
Even when cats move freely around the inn, do not follow them. In a dedicated cat room, do not reach into places where cats are hiding. Even when guests have reserved time to use the space, each cat still has the choice to refuse contact.
Summary
Inns where cats roam freely offer chance encounters; inns with dedicated cat spaces have clearly defined areas and conditions of use. When choosing, check the cats’ retreat spaces and current arrangements as well as the name of the format.
