This article is about privacy measures when taking pictures of resident cats in the common areas of cat inn used by the general public. Unlike at home, you check people in the background, conversations, luggage, and even accommodation information.
If you focus on the cat, you may not notice the faces or belongings of other guests. Check three times: before shooting, immediately after shooting, and before posting on social media.
- Wait for a clear angle before shooting

Wait for a clear angle before shooting
If someone might be in the picture, do not ask them to move away; wait until they move on their own. If the cat leaves first, give up on taking the photo.
The dining room, reception, bath entrance, and check-in counter are places where personal information is likely to be found. Please refrain from taking photos even if there are cats, and check the areas where photos are allowed inside the inn.
Other than the face can also indicate an individual.
Even from the back, an individual may be recognizable from distinctive clothing, name tags, car license plate numbers, luggage tags, and conversation content. Children should be treated with particular care.
Guest room numbers, keys, reservation slips, guest lists, payment screens, and Wi-Fi information will not be disclosed. Zoom in and check any small notices in the background of the resident cat.
If it appears in the photo, it will not be published.
We do not ask people who appear to be the person for permission on the spot, and we hold the information without disclosing it. If you can safely crop it, trim it to the extent that the contents of the cat and the inn do not change, and if it is difficult, delete it.
Blurring a person’s face does not necessarily mean you have permission to publish the photo. It can be determined by a combination of clothing, companions, location, and time, so if in doubt, you can definitely decide not to use it.
Check not only photos but also videos and audio
Off-screen conversations and staff calls are recorded in the video. Check if the inside-the-inn broadcast, guest’s name, and reservation details are included, including audio.
Live streaming cannot be confirmed after shooting. This will not be done unless explicitly approved by the inn, and real-time posting will take into account location information and stay status.
Inn staff will not be the main character without permission.
Even in scenes where the resident cat and the staff get to know each other, we will separately confirm the staff’s permission to film and publish. Just because you’re in a uniform doesn’t mean you can post it freely.
Guests may not be able to take pictures of the people who appear on the inn’s official account. Think about official photos and your own permission to take them separately.
When providing to Neko Yado Research
If there are people in the provided photo, we will confirm that not only the photographer but also the person in the photo has consented to publication. Please do not send photos for which you cannot confirm consent, and choose a different shot without people.
If you include the name of the inn, the date of the photo, the name of the cat, the location of the photo, and the details of the processing, it will be easier to confirm the rights and content.
Pre-publication checklist
- No human face, figure, or voice in the background
- No luggage tags, cars, guest room numbers, or reservation information are visible.
- We have separately confirmed the staff’s permission to photograph and publish.
- Checked location information and whether the post is in real time
- Do not publish photos that are in doubt
Check each destination
Even if the same photo is shared only with family members, the impact will be different if it is shared with the public. For public accounts, posts with location information, live streaming, and video sharing, we will check on the assumption that strangers can save and reprint the content.
| Reflections | Recommended actions |
|---|---|
| Faces and voices of other customers | Not disclosed. Reshoot |
| Back view/characteristic clothing | Don’t use it if you can guess the person |
| Car license plate/luggage tags | Do not use it if you cannot crop out the identifying information |
| Guest room number/key/reservation slip | Do not publish |
| Wi-Fi and entrance code | Delete the image and notify the hotel |
| Real-time location | Consider posting after returning home |
Blurring is an adjunct and not a substitute for permission to publish. Because information may remain in the original image or video audio, check the entire material, not just the processed image.
If you posted by mistake
As soon as we become aware of it, stop publishing and delete the post, story, and sharing destination. If there is information related to safety, such as guest list, keys, entrance codes, etc., please delete it and contact the inn.
If someone else has reprinted it, you may not be able to recover it by simply deleting the original post. It’s best to avoid using materials that are questionable before publication. If we receive a deletion request from the person in question, we will promptly respond without rebutting or reposting.
Summary
Photos at cat inns can include people and information other than cats. Wait for an angle without people, do not publish photos containing other guests, and do not use a photo if you cannot crop them out.
Note: When taking and publishing photos and videos, please prioritize the rules of the hotel and the intentions of the person in the photo.
