Shiramine Onsen inn with resident cat
Current information of the Shiramine Rinpaku Promotion Council introduces Hakusanen as “a resident cat who comes to work every day.”In addition, a post from a guest who stayed in May 2026 records the inn’s cat freely moving between indoors and outdoors.
Although we can confirm that cats are present, we have not found any current official information such as “you can pet them freely,” “you can hold them,” and “they will come to the guest room.”For this reason, we do not classify the inn as B or A. Even if you meet the cat, follow the inn’s instructions about contact and distance.
Please confirm the meeting place and time before booking.
If a cat is going back and forth between inside the inn and outside, it may not be seen depending on the weather or time of day. In particular, Shiramine is an area with deep snow, so the way cats spend their time may change depending on the season.
If time with resident cats is the main purpose of your trip, please contact the inn directly to find out the current cat’s name, whether it is still living there, where it is often seen, and whether you may touch it. Even if a cat approaches, avoid chasing, forcibly holding it, or giving it food.
A mountain village inn in the center of Shiramine
Hakusanen is located in the center of Shiramine, where traditional buildings still remain. The current plan includes Japanese-style guest rooms of 6 tatami mats and 8 tatami mats, and general guest rooms are of the shared bath and toilet type.
It is not a new resort hotel, but an old-fashioned mountain inn. It is suitable for people who enjoy the townscape of Shiramine village, mountain cuisine, and hot springs, rather than new equipment and complete soundproofing. Each room has different facilities, so check your reservation plan to see if there is a toilet or sink.
There is a plan where you can stay with your dog in the annex, but this is a separate service from the experience with resident cats. If you are bringing your dog, please check with the inn about the inside rules to avoid contact with cats.
Viewing bath and adjacent Shiramine Onsen public bath
According to Hakusan City Tourism Official Website, there is a viewing bath on the 5th floor of the building. Shiramine Onsen is described as a hydrogen carbonate spring that feels smooth when it touches your skin.
There is a day-trip hot spring facility called “Shiramine Onsen Soyu” right next to the inn, and there are also information about discount coupons for accommodation plans. If you wish to use both the inn bath and public bath, please check the business hours, closing days, and ticket sales conditions on the day of the event.
Shiramine dishes such as wild vegetables, river fish, and hard tofu
Meals at Hakusanen are centered around mountain cuisine using wild vegetables from the foothills of Mt. Hakusan, mushrooms, river fish, and Shiramine’s famous firm tofu. In order to incorporate seasonal mountain produce from spring to autumn, the menu changes depending on the season and purchasing.
The current accommodation plans include options with two meals, as well as other conditions such as dinner only. For early morning departures such as climbing Mt. Haku, there is also information available for reserving onigiri bento, but please check the latest plan for the price and acceptance deadline.
Approximately 100 minutes by bus from Kanazawa Station to Shiramine
By public transportation, it is approximately 100 minutes by bus bound for Shiramine from JR Kanazawa Station, and can be accessed from the Shiramine bus stop. Since the number of buses and seasonal schedules are limited, it is safe to check the round-trip time before making a reservation.
If you are coming by car, the Hakusan City Tourism Official Guide says it is approximately 80 minutes south on National Route 157 from Hakusan IC.There is a parking lot. There is a lot of snow in winter, and Hakusan Shirakawago White Road may be closed for the season. It is essential to check winter equipment and road information.
Hakusanen is suitable for people

- People who like traditional inns with Japanese-style rooms and shared facilities
- People who want to stay at a hot spring before or after climbing Mt. Hakusan or sightseeing at the foot of Mt. Hakusan.
If you prioritize reliable contact with cats or guest-room visits, there is currently a lack of information. Please compare with accommodations B and A, or check directly with Hakusanen before booking.
