This page is Neko Yado Research’s reporting and editing policy. This is not an interview response to the host or a stay report. Items for which we have not received individual responses will not be published as stories that we have actually heard.

When choosing an accommodation, travelers need information not only about the names and number of cats, but also where they can meet them, whether they have visited the guest room, and what rules they will follow during their stay. At Neko Yado Research, we record separately what can be confirmed in publicly available materials and what we learned through interviews with the host.

For those looking for a travel destination

Please see the Cat Inn List for accommodation suggestions, and the actual stays at Shichirigawa Onsen’s Accommodation Record and Pension Atca’s Accommodation Record. You can use 10 Questions to Ask the Inn to check before making a reservation.

Distinguish between accommodation records, interview articles, and research articles

Type of information To be recorded Not to be determined
Accommodation record Date of visit, things I saw and experienced, and photos I’m sure the next guest will be able to have the same experience
Interview with the host Respondent’s position, interview date, interview method, response confirming publication Items not answered, non-public information
Investigation of published materials Source and date of confirmation of official information, etc., what was learned and unconfirmed matters Impressions as if I had actually stayed there

The cat’s attendance, rest, guest-room visits, and times and places where you can interact with them are subject to change. If the information in the article and the information on the day are different, please give priority to the current information at the inn.

What to confirm with the host

Below are possible questions. This is not a sample answer or a testimonial that has already been interviewed.

Life at the inn with cats

  • How the cat started living here, and the name and profile that can be made public
  • Differences between places where you often spend time in the morning, noon, and night, and business days and closed days
  • Where cats rest away from people, how to determine when to rest or retire

We do not replace a cat’s life with a customer service schedule that says “I can meet you at any time.”Protection history and health information will only be disclosed within the range the host can make public.

Places and rules where guests can meet

  • Conditions for meeting in common areas, private spaces, and guest rooms, and applicable plans
  • Rules for touching, holding, and using treats and toys
  • How to handle the door when you come to the guest room, and how to contact the inn if you want to leave.
  • Things that guests should observe when entering the entrance, windows, and loading luggage

We don’t just provide a summary of “photos allowed” and “snacks allowed.” We also check conditions such as location, time, target cat, and what the hostel will provide. If there is no answer, we will not assume either permission or prohibition.

Photos and disclosure range

  • Where and when you can take photos and videos
  • Handling of SNS posts, cat names, people, and non-public parts of inside the inn
  • Photographer of provided photo, publication permission, credit, correction contact information

We don’t ask you to wake up the cat for the photo, bring it in, or repeat the same movements over and over again. For photos that include people, we will separately check the photographer’s permission and the person’s consent for publication.

From answer to publication

  1. We will discuss the interview method, time required, and scope of disclosure. You can skip questions that are difficult to answer.
  2. Organize answers, photos, and confirmation sources, and distinguish between unconfirmed and private items.
  3. Confirm with the host the name of the inn, the name of the cat, the gist of the statement, and the scope of use of the photo.
  4. The date and method of the interview will be indicated, and the accommodation conditions will be linked to the individual inn introduction article.
  5. If enrollment or rules change, update past records and current information separately.

We do not write responses via email or online as the experience of staying there. If you have only prepared a questionnaire, we will not publish it as a separate interview article.

Contact for interview cooperation and information correction

If you are the host who would like to cooperate with the interview, or if you would like to correct the published information, please contact us via Contact Us and let us know the name of the inn, the URL of the relevant article, and the content of your contact. We prioritize the cat’s physical condition and the inn’s busy schedule, and discuss the range of listings that can be posted.

If you would like to provide a photo, please also check Information required for photo provision.

Update record

2026-09-05: We have integrated the three previous interview project articles (daily life, rules for photography and interaction, and how we adopted a rescue cat) into this interview policy. This is not an update with actual interview answers added.
