“Villa Skavla”, which is built on a hill in Biei-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido, is a guest room that can be rented to only one group per day. You can enjoy a quiet time looking out at Biei’s farmland, Mt. Daisetsuzan, and the Tokachidake mountain range from the large windows.

Cats do not roam freely through the accommodation building, but the owners’ home has two resident cats, Gon and Dora. The official options include free cat petting; people who contact the inn in advance may be able to meet and pet the cats. We therefore classify this inn as B.

When you want to pet resident cats Gon and Dora

Official Option Guide introduces two resident cats at the owner’s house as “cat petting”. Those interested should contact the inn by the day before their check-out date.

The cats are Gon and Dora. According to the owner’s blog, he lives in his home and reception area, and will appear as a resident cat at the check-out time if requested by the guest.

However, the official statement states that you may not be able to meet the cat while it is sleeping. Advance contact is not a guarantee of a meeting appointment, but is meant to allow you to meet as long as it makes sense for the cat’s daily life. Prioritize the cat’s physical condition, convenience, and reluctance, and avoid asking for cuddles or long-term photography.

The cat is in the owner’s house, not in the accommodation building.

The most important thing when choosing Villa Skavla is that the resident cat does not live in the guest room. The place to meet the cat is at the owner’s house/reception side, not at the inn.

It is different from the type A experience of spending the night with a cat, but it is type B, which is more reliable than type C in that the official has clearly prepared opportunities for contact. It is suitable for people who do not expect cat hair in the guest room, but want to balance a private villa stay with a short cat time.

On a 4,000-square-meter site, one group per day

The Biei Town Tourism Association introduces it as a single-story vacation house built on a site of approximately 4,000 square meters. A bath and toilet are available within the guest room, and Wi-Fi and parking can be used. The interior is completely non-smoking, and pets cannot be brought in.

Plans that include a set of breakfast ingredients are basically provided. Information on nearby restaurants is also available on the official website, and there are some restaurants where you can consult about courses exclusive to guests. Decide early on where you will have dinner, the business days, and whether reservations are required.

Starry sky, wood chopping, seasonal experiences

Free wood chopping is available on the grounds, as well as snowshoeing and sledding during the snowy season. For a fee, you can also use stargazing guides, tractor driving experiences, bonfires, seasonal saunas, BBQ equipment, bicycles, etc.

All experiences may not be available due to weather, season, consecutive stay conditions, or the owner’s convenience. It’s a good idea not to overcrowd your schedule, including meeting with cats, and to have some free time to enjoy the scenery of Biei itself.

Things to check before making a reservation

  • Neko Nadenade requires notification at least one day in advance.
  • You may not be able to see the cat if it is sleeping.
  • The resident cat stays at the owner’s home and does not come to the guest room or villa.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Dinner requires separate planning.
  • The experience menu changes depending on the season, weather, and consecutive stay conditions.
  • Please carefully check the weather and driving conditions in Biei during winter.

Summary

Villa Skavla (Villa Skavla) is an inn that combines the rental of an entire building exclusive to the hills of Biei with short-term resident cat exchanges on request. Cats aren’t the type of animals that come to visit the guest room, but the official guide provides clear instructions on how to interact with them, so it’s easy to plan your itinerary.

Suitable for people who want to protect their private time and say hello to Gon and Dora before checking out. Make sure you also have the time to prioritize the cat’s sleep.
