If you stay multiple nights at a cat inn, you won’t have to worry about not being able to meet the cats on the day you arrive, and you can enjoy your time at the inn and the area at your leisure. However, if the number of nights increases, the cat will not necessarily approach you. The criteria for choosing an accommodation is not based on the number of times you come into contact with cats, but on whether you can comfortably organize meals, laundry, cleaning, and how to spend your time during the day.

1. Guesthouse Yashima｜Rent out the whole house and cook your own meals.

Guesthouse Yashima in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture is an old private house that you can rent. In the current accommodation information, you can use the kitchen, bath, toilet, and washing machine, and also confirm that there are supermarkets, drug stores, and restaurants nearby.

This is an inn where you can easily choose between eating out for every meal, buying ingredients and cooking your own meals, or both. Since it’s a private room, you don’t have to accommodate other guests like you would in a dormitory, but be sure to check out the garbage disposal, seasonings, and where you can hang your laundry before making a reservation.

Currently available lodging examples include a record of a resident cat visiting the guest room, so this is A. However, it is not guaranteed that it will come every time. Do not lock the cat in the guest room even during consecutive nights, and before going out, please check with the host about the cat’s whereabouts and how to use the door.

2. Business Ryokan Satoya｜Daily home-cooked meals and laundry

Business Ryokan Satoya in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture is listed on its official website as an accommodation for long-term stays. The paid laundry has two washing machines and two dryers, and is open from 16:00 to 22:00.

Breakfast is Japanese food, dinner is Japanese, Western, and Chinese home-cooked food that changes daily, and the official announcement is that the menu changes 365 days a year. While it is easy to consider for those who want to stay for several nights with meals included, advance consultation is required for allergies, holidays, and dinners on days when you arrive late.

It is classified as B because there is a case where I met a cat inside the inn and petted it. Since we cannot confirm the cat’s guest-room visits or appearance times, this is an inn where you can quietly interact with the cat if you happen to meet it in the dining room or common areas.

3. Mad Cat Hostel Osaka｜City stay and dormitory

Osaka Located in Abeno Ward, Mad Cat Hostel Osaka & Bar is a small hostel with dormitories, a shared kitchen, and paid laundry. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, kettle, and cooking utensils, allowing you to assemble simple meals and laundry during long trips.

The resident cats, Maru and Kogo, may appear in common areas such as bars. Based on the current facility information and accommodation examples, it is B, but it is not a guest room or bed.

It is important that the hostel format suits you, including things like turning off lights in shared rooms, managing luggage and valuables, shared showers, and the sound of the bar. Don’t make your decision based solely on the price for consecutive nights; be sure to check the availability of inside the inn during the day, reception hours, and laundry fees when making your reservation.

4. Ryuo Radon Onsen Utopia | 2-night and 7-night hot spring treatment plan

Ryuo Radon Onsen Utopia in Kai City, Yamanashi Prefecture has posted a small hot spring treatment plan for 2 consecutive nights and a full hot spring treatment plan for 7 consecutive nights on its official website. The 6-tatami Japanese-style room is designed for long-term stays and is within walking distance from JR Ryuo Station.

Goemon, the resident cat, is rated B because you may be able to interact with him near the front desk. Guest-room visits cannot be confirmed, and the main purpose of this inn is the hot springs and the stay itself, rather than meeting cats.

Don’t think of the efficacy of hot springs as a substitute for treatment, but adjust the number and duration of your baths to suit your own physical condition. If you have any concerns, such as if you have a chronic illness, are pregnant, or are undergoing treatment, please consult your doctor and facility. Before making a reservation, be sure to check the number of meals in your plan, outings during the trip, and information on construction work at the bathhouse.

5. Japanese-style Inn Swallow Tokyo Kawasaki｜Urban stay within walking distance of the station

Swallow Tokyo Kawasaki’s official website states that it accepts overnight stays and consecutive nights from one person to a group. It’s about a 10-minute walk from JR Kawasaki Station and about a 5-minute walk from Keikyu Hatchonawate Station, making it an easy location to set up as a base for work, events, and city sightseeing.

The resident cat may walk around the entrance and living room on the 1st floor, but contact is not officially permitted, so it is rated C. If you see a cat in the aisle, don’t chase it; leave space for the cat to move around.

Toilets, sinks, showers, and family baths are shared. The shared living room with kitchen that is officially listed is currently being used as an atelier and cannot be used by guests. Meals, laundry, and cleaning methods for consecutive nights must be confirmed separately.

6. Myoken Rakuenso｜Hot spring inn with all rooms equipped with a kitchen

Myoken Rakuenso in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture offers a hot spring treatment style that makes you feel like you are living there. All rooms have a private kitchen, equipped with basic cooking utensils such as pots, frying pans, and knives. Guests can use 3 fully automatic washing machines on site free of charge.

Officially, the four animals, Yuzu, Deka, Aimo, and Ayu, live freely in the inn. However, it is C because it is not possible to check the places where you can interact or guest room visits. Even if you stay overnight, don’t go looking for the cats; keep your distance and keep an eye on it only when it shows up.

Plan ingredients, seasonings, shopping locations, and transportation for cooking for yourself before departure. Each guest room has different hot springs, views, and facilities, so it is important to check the requirements for long-term stays by specifying the room name.

7. Rokumei-an｜Consider staying multiple nights with meals in Yakushima

Rokumeian in Yakushima Town, Kagoshima Prefecture is a small guesthouse that accommodates only two groups per day. Current reservation information includes multiple-stay plans, and inside the inn offers a communal refrigerator and washer and dryer for a fee. This is a candidate for people who want to stay on the island with meals included and leave the daily cooking to the inn.

We can confirm that the inn’s resident cat is present, but the contact area and guest-room visits are unconfirmed, so it is C. Choose not just cats, but also Yakushima food, wood-fired baths, and sightseeing on the island.

Consecutive night plans may be seasonal. Please check the meal options, breakfast and boxed lunches for early departure days, laundry facility charges, curfew, and transportation in case of inclement weather according to your reservation schedule.

Don’t just choose based on the distance from the cat, compare whether you will have a private room or a shared room, how you will eat, whether you can dry your laundry, and whether you can stay inside the inn during the day.
