“Nekokura Hostel” in Chiyo, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City is a guesthouse with a cat shelter and a cafe/bar. We use revenue from lodging and food and beverages to fund shelter operations, combining travel with support for rescued cats.
Visit to a rescue cat shelter for guests only
On the official website, we have set up a tour of the cat shelter only for users during their stay. The current times are 30 minutes each from 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, with a maximum of 2 people per session, and separate reservations are required.
This site classifies them as B because you can enter the shelter and spend time in the same space as the cats. However, picking up a cat is prohibited, and you will only be allowed to keep the cat on your lap if it climbs there voluntarily. Pay more attention to the shelter rules than those of a regular cat cafe, such as not making loud noises and not waking up sleeping cats.
Depending on the cat’s physical condition and the situation of volunteers and staff, you may not be able to enter the shelter or the session may be canceled suddenly. Cats do not come to the guest rooms. Please note that this plan does not guarantee time with the resident cats, and you must be aware that you may not be able to see the cats before making a reservation.
Hostel guest room and facilities
Guest rooms include shared rooms with curtains and private rooms. It is equipped with the necessary facilities for a simple lodging facility, such as a shower, Wi-Fi, a washing machine, a security box, and a power source near the bed. Please note age requirements when traveling as a family, as persons under 18 are not permitted to stay.
There are no in-room meals or hot springs like inns. Check the shared facilities, quiet hours, check-in time, and paid/free classification of towels, etc. on the reservation screen.
Attached cafe/bar and location in Hakata
There is a cafe/bar on the first floor, where you can eat and drink while watching the resident cats through the windows that separate the guest room and the cat area. Operating days and menus change, so you need to check in advance to make sure the operating hours match the date of your stay.
The location is 4-7-86 Chiyo, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. It is approximately a 3-minute walk from Exit 5 of Chiyo-Kenchoguchi Station on the Hakozaki Line, and a 23-minute walk from Hakata Station. It is easily accessible by public transportation from the airport and Hakata Station, and can also be used as a base for sightseeing in Fukuoka city.
