This article is a research list of accommodations whose conditions could be confirmed as of 2026-08-22, based on Neko Yado Research’s published individual articles and A/B/C audits. Please check the official information of each inn before making a reservation, as business hours, cat availability, plans, and transportation conditions may change.

Correction on 2026-10-10: Removed the unconfirmed natural-hot-spring claim for Masuya Ryokan and clarified that Nyan STAY guest-room visits are not guaranteed. The count and tally date remain the record of 2026-08-22.

As of 2026-08-22, we have confirmed 22 inns in Japan where cats visit the guest room. This represents 16.3% of the 135 domestic inns listed by Neko Yado Research.

The 22 inns mentioned here are not the total number of all cat inns in Japan. Among the domestic inns that Neko Yado Research has written about, this is the number of inns for which we have been able to confirm cases of guest-room visits through official information, specific accommodation information that can currently be referenced, or on-site interviews. In addition to undiscovered and unreported inns, the numbers will change due to the retirement of the resident cat or changes to the inn rules.

Accommodations where there is a possibility that cats will visit the guest room on their own are one of the experiences that Neko Yado Research values most. However, the A rating indicates the visit history and the existence of the applicable plan, and does not guarantee that the cat will come on the reserved date.

Criteria for inclusion in this list

We will post domestic inns where we can confirm cases where resident cats have visited guest rooms through official information, specific accommodation information that can be referenced at the moment, or on-site interviews. Other mechanisms such as sharing a room with a potential cat for adoption are not included.

“You can meet cats,” “you can touch them,” and “cats sometimes come to the guest room” are different conditions. A/B/C on this site indicates the distance to the cat, and does not indicate the quality or recommendation ranking of the accommodation.

Please note that these 22 accommodations do not include experiences where a cat visits the guest room of its own will, such as sharing a room with a cat that is a candidate for adoption, which is different from the system in which the resident cat of the inn visits the guest room of its own will. How to count 22 accommodations and exclusion conditions

Under this site’s category A criteria, we count one domestic inn per facility where you can check the case where a resident cat came to the guest room, or verify the applicable plan in the official guide, specific accommodation information currently available, or through on-site interviews. We do not include accommodations that only allow cats to be brought along, plans where you can experience sharing a room with a rescue cat for adoption, plans that only utilize cat cafes, or accommodations where only outdated secondary information can be confirmed. Even if there are multiple cats or multiple buildings in the same facility, we do not count duplicates.

Guest-room visits indicate past or current cases and are not guaranteed to occur on the day of your stay. Please do not use the number of guest rooms as a ranking of accommodations, as there may be guest rooms that do not allow cats, plans that are not eligible, or days off.

How to read reference materials

The basis for each inn is recorded in individual linked articles, prioritizing official information and on-site interviews. The aggregation date is shown at the beginning and in the update history; if the presence, operation, or plan changes, the A/B/C rating and the number of cases will be updated simultaneously.

Where and when you can meet the cat, and whether you can touch them.
Whether the conditions change for your desired accommodation plan.
You may not be able to meet the cat due to its rest days or physical condition.

Basics when waiting in the guest room

Check with the inn about door handling and store food, medicine, string, and breakables. Do not close the door to keep the cat in the guest room AND do not wake a sleeping cat.

Order of reading rationale for guest-room visits

The strength of the evidence differs even for the same statement, “The cat comes to the room.” If the inn explains it in the current plan or inside the inn information, it will be easier to identify the target guest room and conditions. For Neko Yado Research’s accommodation coverage, we will indicate the date of the coverage, and if we use specific accommodation records that are currently available for reference, we will clearly state that this is an example and not an official guarantee.

There is a guest-room visit or target plan in the current official information of the inn.
We confirmed entry to and exit from the guest room during inquiries to and from the inn.
There is current accommodation information that can identify the inn name, cat, and guest room situation.
Only the presence of the cat can be confirmed, and there is no basis for entering the guest room.

Accommodations that meet 1 to 3 are candidates for A, B for contact in the cat-only room, and C for unconfirmed contact only due to presence. Photos that look like guest rooms, old reviews, and excerpts from search results alone won’t raise your rating to A.

Precautions when using the number of accommodations to select an accommodation

22 accommodations is the lowest number of domestic accommodations confirmed as of 2026-08-22. The total number is not based on a survey of all domestic lodging establishments, and there is a possibility that unlisted accommodations or accommodations with few official announcements remain. The number will decrease if a closure, cat retirement, or change in guest room operation is confirmed, and increase if new evidence is confirmed.

Check which guest rooms and plans are available at your desired accommodation based on the number of cases and regional ranking. Before making a reservation, you will also need to know whether your companion has a cat allergy, food and medicine management, and rules regarding contact with children. You can express your wish by saying, “Please tell me if the cat comes,” but this is not a list requesting that you bring the cat to the guest room.

If the conditions change due to information from the inn, updates to the official website, or on-site interviews, we will update the individual articles and this list at the same time. Old SNS posts alone will not raise the conditions for publication. If you notice any errors or changes in the information, please let us know along with the official source of confirmation.

Accommodations with a possibility of guest room visits require more preparation to respect the cat’s choice to enter or leave. When choosing a place to stay, do not confuse the history of visits with guarantees, and create an itinerary that you can enjoy even if the cat does not come.
